Lolita Byrd is the kitchen coordinator at Arthurtown Early Headstart. She has a 5 year old daughter named Liyah and has been working in childcare for over 8 years. It’s her pleasure to offer the children breakfast, lunch, and snack daily while keeping them safe and following all the food and safety guidelines.
Diamond Harris has been with VCM since 2015 and has an associate’s degree in Elementary Education with plans to gain her bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. Outside of being a teacher at Arthurtown, she is a Zumba instructor, and she enjoys dancing and making people smile. Diamond says, “I started as an Early Head Start Parent, and VCM gave me the tools and advocacy to go back to school and better myself.”
Kenya Mack has been teaching children for nine years and has an associate’s degree in Early Care and Education. She has a certificate in Early Childhood Development and is certified in CPR/first aid. During her spare time, Kenya likes to travel and explore new places.
Selena Samuels has been working with children for 12 years and has an associates degree in Human Services and Early Childhood. She is from South Carolina, has three sons and a pet named Zena. In her spare time, Selena loves going out to dinner, watching movies and being surrounded by family.
Detra Smith has been working with children for 10 years and has worked with infant-aged children through high school ages. She has her Early Childhood Development Certificate with plans to gain her associates in Early Care and Development from Midlands Technical College. Detra has a daughter, and she enjoys shopping and spending time with family.
Good afternoon I’m Tanika Washington and Child and Family development major and graduate of Benedict college. I’m an 23 year old from Sumter SC. Children are an passion of mines that I have had since I was 12 years old. Seeing the smile on their little faces to teaching them the essential they need in life is what really motivates me to become the strong teacher that I am today.
